East Kootenay Community Action Program for Children (CAPC)

Parent and child programs for families in the East Kootenays.
East Kootenay CAPC is a 6-member Coalition that runs 25 programs in 10 different communities. Each community offers programing specific to meeting the needs of that particular region. Program types include early literacy and numeracy programs; play/art/activity programs; parent support groups; parent, tot and family resource centre drop-ins; referrals to other programs and services; a resource/toy library; guest speakers; health, wellness & life-skills programs as well as cultural programs and celebrations.All CAPC programs are offered free of charge to families with children from birth to age 6. Parent participation/supervision is required at all CAPC programs.

The following drop-in groups are offered in Kimberley and Cranbrook:
  • Tree House (Kimberley)
  • Family supper time (Kimberley)
  • Tumble Time: Is for families with children up to age 6. It is an unstructured group where children can run, climb, and play with their parents’/caregiver’s supervision. No sign-up required. (Cranbrook)
  • Wiggle, Giggle and Grow: Is for families with children from birth to six years of age.Join us for a nutritious snack, play with toys, create crafts, sing songs, read stories, and meet other families. (Cranbrook)
  • Baby & Me: Is a free drop-in program for parents and infants aged birth to one year, focusing on the pleasure and power of using rhymes and songs. The relaxed atmosphere also allows time for parents to get to know each other. (Cranbrook)
  • Ball Play: Is for families with children up to age 6. It is an unstructured group, where children can run, play with balls, parachute play and more. (Cranbrook).


The following drop-in groups are offered in Creston:
  • Little Chefs: Children and caregivers enjoy preparing, cooking and sharing a meal together.
  • Scribbles and Nibbles: Morning activity, snack and gym activities for children and caregivers.
  • Preschool Indoor Playground: Indoor gym activities for children and caregivers.
  • Parent and Tot Drop In: Caregivers and children take part in play activities together.


The following drop-in groups are offered in Fernie:
  • Parent Tot Fun Times: This free drop-in program is a rich environment for parents to interact and bond with children aged 1 through 6. Parent-tot Fun Times also provides opportunities for parent to learn valuable parenting skills from early childhood professionals and guest speakers. At a typical drop-in, parents can expect to participate in a sing-a-long, story telling, and a craft with their child.


The following drop-in groups are offered in Golden:
  • Parenting and health promotion programs
  • Child development activities
  • Referrals to community services
